Town Hall: Brugge


This gothic town hall dates back to 1376. It was one of the fist monumental town halls to be built in the Low Counties. There are 48 statues in the hall including the counts of Flanders. The original statues were destroyed in after the French revolution and have been replaced. In the main hall there are some interesting artifacts for the visitor o look at. In he entrance hall a large staircase leads to the Gothic Hall and you must pay a fee to enter.

There are tapercorders available which will explain the history of the building and give you some interesting facts. The hall was decorated in 1895 with neo-gothic paintings that are the most important events of Brugge. Through one of the chambers there is also lots of art work and exhibitions that document the cities past.
